LiiM

LiiM is a creative 3D fabrication studio located in Bristol, UK. It was founded in 2017 by fine artist Lisa Price and designer/maker Michael White. We are model makers and sculptors of art, design and commercial objects. We welcome commissions from artists, designers, creative retail businesses, music and event production, museums, marketing and publishing agencies.

Our combined skill set involves:

  • carpentry,
  • clay sculpting,
  • mold-making and casting,
  • surface painting,
  • sign making,
  • site installation and display,
  • direction and project management,
  • 3D design software,
  • creative engineering,
  • arduino and creative electronics

As a research driven studio, we have a focus on sustainability and adaptation. We often reclaim industrial and household waste into our making, where logical. We aim to limit our environmental impact and so opt to; for example, use eco-friendly substitutes to traditional industry staples, like virgin plastics and toxic resin. We conscientiously select our wood, always choosing responsible sources or recycled pieces where we can.

Lisa Price – Creative Director

Lisa graduated from The University Of The West Of England with a 1st Class Degree in Fine Art. She has a strong sense of personal responsibility to the creative things she outputs with a critical process of working that means a very conscientious outcome is arrived at. She is interested in the semiotics of sculpture and objects and the reproductive possibilities of the casting process in particular. Within her work the qualities of form, colour, surface, texture and space are selected and assembled as a language to be read by the viewer. Price is concerned with the personal and wider social histories of raw materials and ready made objects. She is further curious about the point where art objects meet design and seeks to explore this in concept, tangibility and utility.

Michael White – Technical Director

Michael graduated with a degree from the University of the West of England in Product Design Technology BS(Hons). Conscious of creating non fussy pieces, each element, be it aesthetic, structural or mechanical is selected with poise. He is an advocate for the current DIY design and maker movement that can be found on platforms like Youtube. Everyday access to design, sharing homegrown knowledge and open source data and software are at the heart of his practice. He approaches his work as a problem solver, unwilling to accept any idea as impossible, with the belief that seeking knowledge from others is invaluable. Generative and parametric design, mathematics and historial engineering techniques form the backbone of his research. Then a tactile approach is taken to investigate the most meaningful materials for the job.
